Exchange Symposium presents: the Sex and Nature salon

2nd July 2021 @ 10:00 - 11:00

Presenters:

Siân Docksey, stand-up comedian, writer, and Arts and Culture Creative Fellow 2020-21
Dr Ina Linge, Lecturer in German in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, and Affiliate of the Centre for Medical History, and Co-director of the Sexual Knowledge Unit, University of Exeter

The Sex and Nature Salon is an online event format where academia meets queer comedy cabaret in a hilarious whirlwind of fascinating talks, stand-up, drag and irreverent fun. Guest academics present a short, juicy lecture on their specialist topic which our performers then bring to life with improvised comedy and games with the audience. Plus plenty of room for all involved to make new friends, swap ideas, and have “Eureka!” moments when they least expect it.

The salon format was developed to create an interactive event and ask questions such as: Who is an expert on sexual knowledge? What forms can such expertise take? And what would be banned from a gay penguin nightclub? In their session, Siân and Ina will explore these and other questions with you, outline practical tools to make a fizzing online event, and report their learnings and future plans for the salon.
