FreeElectric Spaces – Leaping Off the Page
A workshop for Exeter Pride 13th May 2017
“The desert appears before us. Go on. Imagine it.”
Explore, debate and celebrate literature by lesbian, bisexual and queer women in the past and present! Playwright and author Natalie McGrath (Dreadnought South West) will offer a reading of her piece “Electric Spaces’, a gripping personal reflection on the ways in which literature compels us to imagine new connections, desires and identities. Following her reading, Natalie will be in conversation with Dr Jana Funke (University of Exeter) to discuss literature by lesbian, bisexual and queer female authors: what role have writers like Virginia Woolf, H.D., Radclyffe Hall, Patricia Highsmith, Jane Rule, Jeanette Winterson or Sarah Waters played in shaping our histories, identities and communities? In the end, you will have an opportunity to ask questions and contribute to creating a communal LGBTQ literary timeline featuring the authors, stories and character that have meant the most to you!
